Media Consumption
Media consumption is a phrase referring to a person's usage or consumption of specified media or a media vehicle. Like a food log, the media consumption log documents a person's media-related activities for a given period of time.
Students: You will be expected to keep a journal or notepad that will be the raw data source for your own logs, blogs, or essays. This week spend one 12-hour period observing the ways you consume culture. Keep a notepad with you and make notes on all the ways you consume culture. Note the duration of your exposure to the media. Once you have a diary log for a 12-hour period, I encourage you to do some basic research into private companies or government organizations that generated the content that you consumed.
Also remember that media includes newpapers, magazines, film, radio, television, World Wide Web, books, CDs, DVDs and much more. The minute we awaken each day we are inundated with text, images, and sounds. The messages being communicated are usually constructed to serve a purpose.
